    \nBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rupnagar District President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura today addressed a press conference and informed that he recently met Rajya Sabha Member and internationally renowned cricketer Harbhajan Singh to discuss the issue of the historic Government College sports ground in Rupnagar. Lalpura revealed that during the meeting, Harbhajan Singh handed over an official letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar, urging the immediate restoration, repair and redevelopment of the Government College sports ground. Displaying the letter during the press conference, Lalpura said Harbhajan Singh has clearly mentioned that the condition of the ground deteriorated significantly after a recent event, adversely affecting the regular practice of young athletes. He emphasized that immediate steps should be taken to restore the ground so that local sportspersons do not suffer.
    \nLalpura further stated that Harbhajan Singh has requested the Deputy Commissioner to prepare and forward the estimated cost required for the restoration and development of the ground to his office. He assured that once the estimate is received, he will make every possible effort to arrange financial assistance at his level to ensure that Rupnagar’s young athletes receive quality sporting infrastructure.
    \nSpeaking on the occasion, Ajayvir Singh Lalpura said, “It was a privilege to personally meet the pride of the nation and my elder brother, ‘Turbanator’ Harbhajan Singh, and express my heartfelt gratitude. Our backward region of Rupnagar, which has remained neglected for decades and has been a victim of political apathy, has finally found someone who genuinely cares. Harbhajan Singh has demonstrated his love for the nation, Punjab and its fertile land by taking up the issue of this historic sports ground as his own responsibility. He assured me that he will always stand with the youth and sportspersons of this sacred land of the Khalsa Panth.”
    \nLalpura said that the BJP believes in working for the development of youth, sports and public welfare rather than indulging in mere political rhetoric. He added that the personal intervention of a legendary sportsperson like Harbhajan Singh reflects his genuine concern for the future of Rupnagar’s aspiring athletes.
    \nDuring the press conference, Lalpura also launched a sharp attack on the Punjab Government and the local MLA. He alleged that the MLA frequently claims credit on social media for the construction of village sports grounds while deliberately concealing the fact that most of these projects have been funded through Central Government schemes such as MGNREGA, the Finance Commission Grants and other Central assistance programmes.
    \nIssuing an open challenge, Lalpura said, “I possess complete official records, including approvals and payment details, of every sports ground constructed in this constituency. I openly challenge the MLA to prove even a single sports ground that has been built exclusively with Punjab Government funds. Let him disclose how much money the Punjab Government has actually contributed from its own treasury. It is time to stop misleading the people and claiming political credit for projects financed by the Central Government.”
    \nLalpura further stated that Harbhajan Singh has assured him of his full support for the restoration of Rupnagar’s historic sports ground and has pledged to remain committed to protecting the interests of young athletes.
